Kullen's lighthouse, furthest out on Kullaberg, is Scandinavia's strongest lighthouse light, in some of the world's most heavily trafficked waters. It lies 78,5 meters over sea level and can be seen 50kms away.
Today's lighthouse was designed by the architect Magnus Dahlander from Dalarna, Sweden, in 1898 and is therefore a little more than 100 years old. However there has been a light here for more than a 1000 years to guide sailors.
The lighthouse is built in granite and brick. It has three large lenses that rotate four times per minute and give three flashes per rotation. . The lens was devised by the Frenchman Fresnel and delivered in 1900. The total cost for the completed lighthouse was 100 922 Riksdaler of which 60 000 was the cost of the lens itself.
